Dr. Mouhamed Tarazi, Chairperson, ISGC Appointed
Dr. Mouhamed Nabih Tarazi has two PhD degrees, one in pure mathematics and numerical analysis and one in mathematical sciences, from L'Universite de Franche Comte in Besancon, France. He is a licensed school treasurer in the State of Ohio. He has been an imam in Columbus since 1992. He has been working in education for over 40 years and is one of the founders of Sunrise Academy. He has also started two public charter schools and a preschool in Franklin County. He currently teaches at Franklin University and is director of International Academy of Columbus, a K-8th public charter school. Father of Omar and Khaled, his grandson Malik is starting Sunrise this year.
Dr. Waleed Muhanna, Parent Representative
An Associate Professor of Information Systems at Max M. Fisher College of Business, The Ohio State University. He received his undergraduate degree from the University of Tulsa, and his master's and doctorate from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Professor Muhanna has published numerous research articles in scholarly journals and serves on the editorial boards of a number of leading academic journals. As an academic and an educator, Professor Muhanna brings considerable experience to the Board, particularly in the areas of curriculum development, pedagogy, performance evaluation, and strategic planning. Dr. Muhanna has three children (Khaled, Sarah, and Danah) enrolled at Sunrise Academy.
Sr. Safaa El-Oraby, School Board Appointed
Environmental Engineer at Ohio EPA in the Division of Air Pollution Control. She received a B.S. in Civil Engineering and in Medical Technology from The Ohio State University. She has served on the Sunrise School Board for three years as a parent representative and two years as a Sunrise girls scout leader. She worked on the Sports Complex construction committee and currently serves as secretary and treasurer for the Board.
Dr. Mahmoud Houmsse, ISGC Appointed
Dr. Houmsee is a cardiologist with special interest in managing heart rhythm and heart device management. He is an Assistant Professor of Cardiovascular Medicine at The Ohio State University Heart Hospital. Dr. Houmsee is married to Sr. Rehab D. Shehna and has three children (Aseel, Elaff and Mustafa) enrolled at Sunrise Academy. He is very interested in working with other board members and the community leaders to establish a high school.
Sr. Leah Mohiuddin, School Director
Sr. Leah graduated from the University of Kentucky with a degree in Human Resource Management. She has been on the school board since 1997 and has served as the Director of Sunrise Academy since 1998. She is married to Syed Minhaj Mohiuddin and they have two children, Taha and Aisha. Her children were two of the original nine students who started in the school in 1996. Taha and Aisha are currently attending The Ohio State University pursuing professions in the medical field.
Br. Hersi Mohamed, Parent Representative
Br. Hersi graduated from Somali National University in 1989 with a BA in Linguisitics. He currently is the owner of Safari Travel and Services. He was an ESL teacher for immigrants in adult education at Houston Community College from 2002-2005. He also was the Somali community vice president in greater Houston from 2000-2003. Br. Hershi worked for the Somali Airlines from 1989-2000 as a Traffic Manager and worked at the Mogadishu Airport as a Load Master in 1987. He has two children (Mariam and Sahra) enrolled at Sunrise Academy.
Dr. Ronney Abaza, School Board Appointed
Dr. Abaza is a native of Toledo, Ohio. He and his wife, Wahida, have three children, Hasan, Mariam and Zaid. They joined the community in 2008. Dr. Abaza is a Urologist who performs robotic surgery and is Director of Robotic Urologic Surgery for The Ohio State University Medical Center.
