Dr. Mouhamed Tarazi, Chairperson, ISGC Appointed 

Dr. Mouhamed Nabih Tarazi has two PhD degrees, one in pure mathematics and numerical analysis and one in mathematical sciences, from L'Universite de Franche Comte in Besancon, France.  He is a licensed school treasurer in the State of Ohio.  He has been an imam in Columbus since 1992.  He has been working in education for over 40 years and is one of the founders of Sunrise Academy.  He has also started two public charter schools and a preschool in Franklin County.  He currently teaches at Franklin University and is director of International Academy of Columbus, a K-8th public charter school.  Father of Omar and Khaled, his grandson Malik is starting 4th grade this year and his granddaughter Mariam is starting Kindergarten.

Sr. Safaa El-Oraby, Treasurer (non-voting member, School Board appointed)

Environmental Engineer at Ohio EPA in the Division of Air Pollution Control. She received a B.S. in Civil Engineering and in Medical Technology from The Ohio State University. She has served on the Sunrise School Board for three years as a parent representative and two years as a Sunrise girls scout leader. She worked on the Sports Complex construction committee and currently serves as secretary and treasurer for the Board.

Sr. Sonya Hamed, School Board Parent Representative

 

Sonya Hamed has a Secondary Education Bachelors degree with a Social 
Studies comprehension from Kent State University. Sonya has been with 
Sunrise Academy since it first opened in 1996. She has five children, 
three of which attended Sunrise Academy and has since moved on. The 
fourth child, is a third grader this year.

 

Br. Mohammed Shakeel, School Board Appointed

 

Muhammad Shakeel has a Masters Degree in Computer Science from International Islamic University, Islamabad.  He works for HP as Project Manager in IT Services sector and is a certified Project Management Professional (PMP). He moved to Columbus in 2006. He focused on Outreach/Interfaith as part of the Executive Committee of Noor Center in 2010 – 2011. He was one of the founders of the Public Relations Department of Noor Center and also co-founded a new interfaith organization called Safe Alliances of Interfaith Leaders (SAIL). He gives Khutbah at various Masajid in Columbus. He gives talks on Islam to the Non Muslims in various faith based organizations. He has keen interest in professional training and mentoring. He trains and mentors junior managers at HP. He is father of Hanin, Ibraheem and Fatima. Hanin and Ibraheem are Sunrise students and Fatima will start Sunrise next year.

 

Dr. Mahmoud Houmsse, ISGC Appointed

Dr. Houmsee  is a cardiologist with special interest in managing heart rhythm and heart device management.  He is an Assistant Professor of Cardiovascular Medicine at The Ohio State University Heart Hospital.  Dr. Houmsee is married to Sr. Rehab D. Shehna and has three children (Aseel, Elaff and Mustafa) enrolled at Sunrise Academy.  He is very interested in working with other board members and the community leaders to establish a high school.

Sr. Leah Mohiuddin, School Director

Sr. Leah has been on the school board since 1997 and has served as the Director of Sunrise Academy since 1998.  She is married to Syed Minhaj Mohiuddin and they have two children, Taha and Aisha.  Her children were two of the original nine students who started in the school in 1996.  

Dr. Ronney Abaza, School Board Appointed

Dr. Abaza is a native of Toledo, Ohio.  He and his wife, Wahida, have three children, Hasan, Mariam and Zaid.  They joined the community in 2008.  Dr. Abaza is a Urologist who performs robotic surgery and is Director of Robotic Urologic Surgery for The Ohio State University Medical Center.
