Asalamu alaykum!
My grandparents are Palestinian, my parents grew up in Jordan and moved to America as newly weds. I was born and raised in Michigan and got my degree in Elementary Education with an Early Childhood and Mathematics endorsement. I worked in the Kalamazoo Public Schools for 6 years and earned a Masters in Principalship. I have a teaching license in PK-6 and a principal license in PK-12 in the state of Michigan, Ohio and West Virginia. While teaching in Michigan I led Professional Learning Communities to improve teaching skills and academic performance of students. I also worked in the summers for the entire district in revising curriculum work. I applied for and received grants for my classroom, was involved in the School Improvement Team and was active in the PTO.
After my first daughter was born I decided to stay at home. For the last ten years, I homeschooled my four children, founded a mommy and me playgroup called Happy Hearts that was designed to create a strong community among young children and their mothers while remembering Allah together. I coached soccer and Girls on the Run for many years. This year my family and I are starting a new chapter in our lives and joining the Sunrise family. We are excited for the new experience.
There's so much to learn and grow this year! Alhamdulillah! My main goal is for students to love learning while remembering Allah throughout our day. Allah's first revelation was "Read!" and that's exactly what we will get to do together, Alhamdulillah. Reading is so important for it to be the first thing revealed to our Beloved Prophet (S) and it is what first graders need to learn to do well this year, inshallah! Allah accept this from us, You are the All Hearing, All Knowing!
