My name is Wafaa Salih, AKA Ms. Waffles, and this is my first year teaching in Sunrise Academy as a 2nd Grade teacher! My parents are from Morocco, and my siblings and I were born in Queens, New York. We moved to Hilliard, Ohio when I was seven years old, and Alhamdulillah, shortly after, I was welcomed into the Sunrise Academy family as a 2nd grade student. I was a student at Sunrise from 2nd - 6th grade, and continued my academic career in Hilliard Public School, and graduated from Hilliard Darby High School in 2019. By Allah's grace, I received my Associate’s Degree of Science from Columbus State Community College in Spring 2021, and recently graduated with my Bachelor's of Arts in Psychology from The Ohio State University in Spring 2023. Prior to teaching at Sunrise, I was a Summer Camp Counselor in the Sunrise Academy Summer Camp 2017-2019, and 2023.
Alhamdulillah, my experience of working as a camp counselor and volunteering at the Masjid has only made my love and passion for teaching grow, especially when I am able to involve Islamic values and lessons. I am also in the process of memorizing the Quran (please make duaa for me insha'Allah, Jazakumullahu Khairan), and this journey has given me a sense of purpose and direction while I teach in the classroom. I am very grateful to be a teacher to my students because just as I am there to help them in their academic journey, they are helping me in pursuing my passion of teaching Alhamdulillah. My goal as a teacher is to provide an environment that will allow students to learn and grow academically, emotionally, socially and religiously.
May Allah swt accept this as an act of worship from us all, and may we always remember the honor of teaching the next generation of our Ummah. Ameen.
